Deputy Editor, Special Reports
Full Time – New York, NY
NewsGuard is seeking an energetic and entrepreneurial journalist to oversee our special reports, newsletters, and other content not-yet-imagined. NewsGuard has produced “Nutrition Labels” for more than 6,000 news and information sites, while publishing impactful newsletters and special reports on issues such as how major consumer brands support misinformation sites through programmatic advertising and how Q-Anon spread to Europe. We are now looking for an ideas-driven editor to take charge of our special reports and other non-label content.
The ideal candidate to lead this effort is well-versed in media and journalism and has a record of accomplishment in launching editorial projects that adhere to the highest standards of accuracy and fairness. This editor will drive what promises to be a growing part of our business, overseeing content from inception to completion, generating ideas, creating production schedules, editing copy, and coming up with new ways that our content, data, and resources can be leveraged to create new value. Salary commensurate with experience.
Good candidates for this job also will:
- Have excellent editing, writing, and reporting skills
- Have experience navigating social media platforms and apps for online disinformation
- Approach the role in a non-partisan, non-ideological manner
- Be eager and willing to work for a fast-paced, early stage startup where the product and processes are continually evolving

While the ability to work from our Manhattan offices is a plus, it is not a requirement—we consider applications from remote workers seriously.
NewsGuard uses journalism to fight false news, propaganda, and misinformation. Our analysts, who are trained journalists, rate and review online news sources based on nine basic, apolitical journalistic criteria to help readers and viewers know which ones follow basic standards of credibility and transparency–and which do not. NewsGuard was founded by –Steven Brill (award-winning journalist and co-founder of The American Lawyer, CourtTV, and other companies) and Gordon Crovitz (former publisher of the Wall Street Journal). NewsGuard’s data is used by a wide range of companies and institutions to combat misinformation, including the World Health Organization, the U.S. State Department and U.S. Cyber Command, the U.K. government, technology companies such as Microsoft and BT, and a wide range of research and academic partners.
