In 2020, the fight against misinformation was more important than ever.
At NewsGuard, we view our work as not only advancing our business interests, but also the public interest. Our trust ratings, which now cover more than 6,000 news and information sites that account for 95% of online engagement with news in the U.S. and Europe, are helping consumers find trustworthy news while avoiding misinformation. They’re helping companies advertise on credible news while avoiding sending advertising revenue to hoax sites.
And they’re helping everyone from platforms to educational institutions provide a simple news literacy tool to help average internet users understand which sources they can trust and which they should read with extra skepticism.
In our 2020 Social Impact Report, we’ve captured some of the work we’ve been doing to help turn the tide in the fight against misinformation. We’re proud of this work and plan to continue the fight in 2021.
