1. What Personal Information Do We Gather About You?

When you visit our website, you may choose to share your name and email address in order to sign up for our newsletter or other service, to give us feedback, or to suggest additional sites to rate. We do not require or collect personal information beyond your name and email address when you voluntarily provide feedback us. And that information is not sold to or shared with any entity. We are not in the business of selling advertising of any kind or facilitating third party marketing of any kind, and, therefore, would have no reason to sell or share this information.

2. User-Generated Feedback

We offer you the opportunity on our website to provide feedback on our ratings and nutrition labels. This feedback is shared internally only and is not shared with the public and is not a “public activity.” However, if you represent a website we have rated and written about, we may post any comment or complaint you may have shared with us about that rating or write-up.

3. Email Newsletters

If you submit your name and email address on our website, we will periodically send you email newsletters about our services. To opt out of these emails, please see the section labeled How do I opt out from receiving email newsletters?

4. Analytics Data

We collect analytics data on our website. We use tracking cookies to know basic information about the use of our website, such as which websites are producing the most views of nutrition labels or what geographical areas are yielding the most users.

This data is anonymous and contains no personally identifiable information.

We do not collect any personally identifiable information.

More specifically, this anonymous information falls into two categories:

A.) Device Information. We collect information about the computer, mobile device or other device you use to access the website, such as Internet protocol (IP) addresses (the region or general location where your computer or device is accessing the Internet), geolocation information, unique device identifiers, browser type, browser language and other transactional information.

How Do I Opt Out From Receiving Email Newsletters?

If you no longer wish to receive our newsletters, follow the “unsubscribe” instructions located near the bottom of each email.

5. Information Sharing with Browser Extensions

When you install our Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Apple Safari browser extension through their respective web stores, we are only able to collect anonymous usage information through the use of Google Analytics. We can collect information about the computer you use to access NewsGuard’s Browser Extension, such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (the region where your computer is accessing the Internet), geolocation information, unique device identifiers, screen size, browser language and other transactional information.

We cannot collect and do not collect any personally identifiable information through this transaction and we do not share even the anonymous information with any outside party for the purpose of advertising sales.

6. Browsing History

When you visit a website with the NewsGuard browser extension enabled, the browser extension sends the website domain to NewsGuard’s servers to check whether a rating and nutrition label exists for that site and, if one does, to display that rating and nutrition label in your browser.

However, NewsGuard does not collect or store this information or any information about the websites you visit. The servers and load balancers that receive this information do not store or transmit any logs of this traffic.

NewsGuard cannot and does not use data about the websites you visit for any purpose other than to serve its ratings and nutrition labels to you as you use the browser extension.

We evaluate and update this privacy policy periodically in light of changing business practices, technology and legal requirements. Any changes will be posted on this page.
