Spring Editorial Intern (Podcasts and Audio)

Part Time – U.S (NYC office and remote options)

Job Description

NewsGuard is offering paid internships for current students (undergraduate and graduate) and recent graduates with an interest in journalism, especially audio journalism, this spring semester. Interns will help conduct research, write content, and otherwise help build and shape the launch of NewsGuard’s newest product — the first-ever credibility rating system for news and information podcasts. Interns will NOT produce audio podcasts as part of this project.

Interns will have the opportunity to help launch this audio rating system from the ground, working with NewsGuard’s experienced journalists to assess news and information podcasts using a set of basic, apolitical journalistic criteria. Interns will have opportunities to conduct research, review transcripts, write copy, and help assemble detailed explanations of each podcast’s credibility and record of accuracy.

Interns who show promise will be considered strongly for full-time positions after their internships. Seniors or recent graduates who might be interested in a full-time role after their internship are preferred.

About NewsGuard Internships

We aim to provide interns with opportunities to learn new skills, gain valuable journalism experience, and have a meaningful impact on our mission of fighting misinformation online and other spheres. NewsGuard interns learn and practice high-quality, professional journalism, working directly with experienced reporters and editors, including former senior editors from Reuters, The Associated Press, The Chicago Tribune, and other publications.

Spring editorial interns will assist in the development of a new Podcast Reliability Ratings product, built around NewsGuard’s established rating processes. Interns will be expected to:

  • Assist editors and other staff in locating and analyzing transcripts, audio clips and other documentation.
  • Evaluate, research, and fact-check claims.
  • Write summaries or first drafts related to the Podcast Reliability Ratings.
  • Monitor various news and information podcasts.
  • Adapt to an evolving editorial product and workflow.

Students with a background in audio journalism, fact-checking, covering dis/misinformation, and producing investigative work are encouraged to apply.

We aim for every intern to leave NewsGuard with bylines, clips, and other examples and artifacts of their work that will help them demonstrate what they have learned.
