Olivier Monnier

Contributing Analyst

Olivier Monnier was a Contributing Analyst for NewsGuard, based in Montréal, Canada. From 2010 to 2018, he worked as a West Africa reporter for Bloomberg News in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. His work included coverage of Ivory Coast’s civil war in 2011, threats from Islamist militants in the Sahel, and the secretive cocoa industry. In 2018, Monnier relocated to Canada where he has written about the cannabis industry, the psychedelic renaissance, the technology sector, gang violence, and the impact of COVID-19 in the health and agribusiness sectors for Agence France-Presse, Mediapart, Les Echos, and Libération. He also works as a freelance editor for the World Bank Group.

Monnier holds a master’s degree in Journalism from École supérieure de journalisme de Lille, France, and a master’s degree in Political Science from Institut d’études politiques de Rennes, France (Rennes Political Science Institute).
