Manager, Special Projects

Role:

The Manager, Special Projects will work with NewsGuard’s executive team to lead high-priority initiatives that advance NewsGuard’s business and mission of combating misinformation and elevating trustworthy news for online news consumers, companies, and democracies worldwide.

NewsGuard’s team of journalists provides trust ratings for 35,000 news and information sources based on nonpartisan journalistic criteria and machine-readable “Misinformation Fingerprints” for tracking false claims spreading online. NewsGuard’s data is used by major technology platforms, advertising companies, AI companies, and others seeking to protect against misinformation targeting their users. For consumers, we provide context on the news they encounter online through a news-literacy browser extension and our newsletter, Reality Check.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Special Projects Manager will meet daily with the executive team to align on the company’s top priorities and will oversee a portfolio of projects aimed at advancing those priorities—from spearheading new product launches to high-profile public communications that raise NewsGuard’s profile to managing relationships with top enterprise clients and stakeholders. This is a unique role that will have direct access to leadership and be able to have a direct impact on the organization

The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter with excellent project-management, communications, writing, and relationship-building skills who believes in the value of trustworthy journalism and is passionate about advancing NewsGuard’s mission.   

 Key responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting the executive team in developing and executing company strategy
  • Spearheading top-priority projects identified by the executive team
  • Working with the product team on new feature development and project-managing the launch of new products and initiatives
  • Managing and developing top client relationships
  • Crafting priority communications for key stakeholders including clients, prospects, board members, the press, and the public to advance NewsGuard’s work
  • Working closely with the editorial, marketing, operations product, and business development teams ensure teams have the resources, systems and strategy needed to achieve the company’s goals
  • Adapting to take on projects that address the company’s changing needs and priorities over time

We’re looking for candidates with:

  • A demonstrated passion for journalism and/or mission-driven work around countering misinformation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience that demonstrates excellent project-management skills and an overall ability to get things done
  • Proficiency in basic data analysis and strong Excel/Google Sheets skills
  • An ambitious and entrepreneurial mindset and approach to your work
  • Experience working in a startup environment is a plus

Compensation: 

Salary range of $65,000-$90,000 based on experience, plus bonus and stock options
