NewsGuard was co-founded by journalist and media entrepreneur Steven Brill and former Wall Street Journal publisher Gordon Crovitz.

The Opportunity

NewsGuard is seeking a Vice President of Advertising and Data Partnerships to lead established commercial relationships with the advertising industry — including brands, media agencies, DSPs, SSPs, and ad-tech platforms — as well as emerging opportunities with companies in the AI and reputation management sectors that have a growing need for our data.

This is a senior, revenue-generating role. The right candidate will drive deals, forge creative distribution partnerships, and ensure that NewsGuard’s information reliability data — the most comprehensive and rigorous source of publisher trust intelligence available anywhere — is embedded in how advertisers make decisions about where and how they spend.

The advertising industry is navigating a defining moment: an explosion of AI-generated content and other slop and “made for advertising” websites, the fragmentation of programmatic supply chains, and growing pressure on brands to understand where their ad dollars are actually going and what content they are funding. NewsGuard for Advertising and our Brand Misinformation Monitoring Service are industry-leading responsive to these challenges — and this VP will make the case for them, close the deals, and build the partnerships that put our data in front of the people making media buying decisions.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and drive advertising industry revenue: prospecting, pitching, negotiating, and closing licensing and data partnerships with brands, agency holding companies and independents, DSPs, SSPs, and ad-verification and measurement companies.
  • Develop and execute a go-to-market strategy for NewsGuard’s advertising data products, including our Source Reliability Ratings, False Claim Fingerprints, and Brand Misinformation Monitoring Service.
  • Forge creative distribution and integration partnerships — with DSPs, SSPs, agency trading desks, and brand-safety tech providers — that embed NewsGuard data directly into programmatic buying workflows.
  • Lead sales efforts with companies seeking to use NewsGuard’s information reliability intelligence for reputation management and corporate brand protection, translating our data into a clear value proposition for communications, legal, and C-suite buyers.
  • Identify and pursue AI industry opportunities — working closely with our existing AI partnerships team — where our Source Reliability Ratings, False Claim Fingerprints, and FAILSafe for AI product address trust and reliability challenges for AI developers and deployers.
  • Represent NewsGuard at industry events, in trade press, and in client-facing contexts as a recognized voice on information reliability, media quality, and brand safety.
  • Work closely with NewsGuard’s General Manager, co-CEOs, and editorial leadership to ensure our commercial strategy reflects and reinforces our mission.
  • Maintain a pipeline and provide accurate revenue forecasting.
  • Manage a business development team in the U.S. and Europe

What We’re Looking For

Applicants for this role should:

  • Have experience in the digital advertising industry — in a sales, business development, or partnerships role at a DSP, SSP, ad-verification or brand-safety company, brand, agency, or media company.
  • Understand the programmatic advertising ecosystem from the inside: how DSPs, SSPs, and agencies interact; how brand safety and suitability tools are evaluated and purchased; and how data providers are integrated into buying workflows.
  • Have a record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals with major advertisers, holding companies, or ad-tech platforms.
  • Know how to sell to both technical buyers (product, data partnerships) and strategic buyers (CMOs, agency investment leads, brand safety teams).
  • Be entrepreneurial, self-directed, and comfortable working in a small, fast-moving organization where they will own their domain end to end.
  • Be deeply aligned with NewsGuard’s mission to promote information reliability and quality journalism — and be able to articulate that mission compellingly to prospective partners.
  • Ideally, have experience selling to or working within the AI industry, or to brands and communications firms with reputation management needs.
  • Be able to work from NewsGuard’s New York office on a hybrid basis.

Compensation and Benefits

$150,000–$200,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus performance-based commission and equity. NewsGuard offers health benefits and a collaborative, mission-driven work environment where commercial success directly advances our work on information reliability.
